The former Harambee Stars captain did not make a big impression despite his team’s big win
Victor Wanyama had one of the lowest ratings as FC Montreal bounced back from their three-match winless run with a 4-0 thrashing of Minnesota United on Sunday morning.
Wanyama, who started in midfield alongside Canadian Nathan Saliba, played all 90 minutes but did not make a big impression even if his side recorded the huge win.
The former Harambee Stars captain was given a Whoscored rating of 6.9, same as his midfield partner Saliba, with wing-back Lassi Lappalainen, having the lowest (6.4) among the Montreal starting XI.
Wanyama managed a pass accuracy rate of 69 percent while he won one aerial duel as well as a tackle with one shot that went off target.
Despite their central midfielders failing to sparkle, Montreal still put on a good display with American forward Mason Toye scoring twice.
Toye, with goals in the seventh and 57th minutes, got offensive help from Zachary Brault-Guillard with a goal in the 13th minute and Rudy Camacho in the 76th. Montreal improved to 7-9-1 with the win, while Minnesota (5-7-5) have now lost eight of their last nine games on the road in all competitions.
This was Montreal’s seventh consecutive win at home in all competitions, keeping a clean sheet in every one of them.
“The positivity in this group has been so important, any players that is in the group has the right mindset,” said Montreal coach Hernan Losada.
“This run was honestly extremely tiring. I’m exhausted. If I feel this way, I can only imagine how the players feel, this schedule was madness.”
Montreal will head into the international break in confident mood having drawn 2-2 with DC United, fallen 3-0 to Philadelphia Union and lost the Canadian Championship final 2-1 to Vancouver Whitecaps on Thursday before Sunday’s match.
The break also puts an end to a congested run of games where Montreal played 11 times in 36 days.
Montreal, who are ninth on the 15-team Easter Conference table with 22 points from 17 matches, will return to Stade Saputo on June 21 and host Nashville SC, while Minnesota will take on Real Salt Lake on June 24.
