Former coach Odongo has since joined Kakamega Homeboyz as an assistant coach
Paul Nkata is set to take over the reins at Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) side Wazito FC after the club decided on Sunday to part ways with coach Jeffers Odongo.
Wazito owner Joel Odongo has reportedly met with the board and resolved to dismiss Jeff, with Ugandan coach Nkata set to replace him.
Nkata could be on the touchline on Tuesday when Wazito takes on Gor Mahia in an FKF Premier League match set to be played at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
His priority will be to steer Wazito from the relegation zone after a turbulent season that has seen an unwanted record of just two wins in 12 matches.
Nkata was previously in charge of National Super League side Muhoroni Youth.
At Wazito, the 62-year-old coach will be assisted by Ibrahim Ateng', while Samuel 'Abawa' Odhiambo will continue as the goalkeeper's coach.
Nkata is not new to Kenyan football as he initially coached Kakamega Homeboyz, where he resigned after match-fixing allegations rocked the club back in January 2019 but the charges were later dropped by FIFA.
He previously coached Nairobi City Stars, Bandari FC, and Tusker and is remembered for guiding the Brewers to a double in the 2016 season.
In his native Uganda, Nkata managed SC Villa, Express FC, URA, and most recently Mbarara City.
Nkata turned out for Nsambya, Bunamwaya, SC Villa and Express during his football days.
He also played for the Uganda national team, winning the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup thrice before retiring in 1991.
Nkata grew up in a footballing family. Four of his siblings, George Sendagala and Eria Sewanyana, featured for Nsambya and Bank of Uganda FC, Isaac Sempiira turned out for Fisheries FC, and Benon Masembe, who played for Bank of Uganda.
