Ten Hag believes Manchester United proved something in the FA Cup final against Manchester City
Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has made a bold claim after his side’s FA Cup final loss to Manchester City.

The Red Devils came out of the first Manchester derby in an FA Cup final with a defeat to their noisy neighbours, but Ten Hag was adamant that his side also deserved plaudits after going toe-to-toe with the best team in the world.
Ten Hag’s side were shellshocked after conceding a goal to Manchester City’s Ilkay Gundogan inside 12 seconds but rallied to an equaliser through captain Bruno Fernandes in the first half.
Although the Red Devils eventually succumbed to another Gundogan goal to lose the final, Ten Hag was still full of praise for his team at the final whistle.

Speaking after the game, the Dutch manager heralded his side as the only team in the world that could match Manchester City stride for stride, saying the team only lost after conceding two unusual goals.
“We played very competitive despite of a very organised [opponent],” Ten Hag said, before continuing, “We didn’t allow them out from open play, against probably the best team in the world.
“We fought back from a goal down and I think we are the only team in the world who are capable of fighting back against this team, against City. I was happy with the performance of my team.”
Despite questioning the quality of the goals conceded, Ten Hag was still unwilling to blame any individuals for the defeat, saying, “In this moment I don’t want to talk about such issues about criticism, because we played all a great season, including David de Gea - he played a great season.
“If you consider that City before today had both 42 wins, so now they are one win more.”
Manchester City will be hoping for yet another win when they play Inter in the UEFA Champions League final as they look to match Manchester United’s treble achievement from 1999.
