A passive performance lacking creativity ultimately cost Nigeria the chance to lift the Africa Cup of Nations trophy as a hungry Ivory Coast side executed their gameplan to perfection in the final.
Oshoala reacts to Super Eagles
The African footballer of the year took to her social media platform on X.com to offer some perspective on what a black weekend for Nigerians was.
Posting a tweet following the defeat to the Elephants, the former Barcelona striker said; "Na cup we lose, no be our lives."
Following the agonising loss to Ivory Coast, Oshoala maintained a philosophical viewpoint, adding the hashtag #Alhamdulilah, meaning "praise be to God" in Arabic.
While disappointed, the tweet indicates Oshoala is keen to shift focus to the bigger picture, recognising it was ultimately just a football match rather than a life-altering setback.
Her message exemplifies the mindset aspired to in defeat - accepting what cannot be changed and keeping a sense of proportion about what matters most.
The Super Eagles went into the final against the host nation looking to end a 10-year wait for AFCON glory,
However, despite taking the lead via William Troost-Ekong’s towering header, the night ended in tears for the Eagles as Franck Kessie and Sebastien Haller netted in the second half to turn things around in favour of the Elephants.
After coming so close to continental glory, Oshoala's level-headed post stood out for its maturity in the face of dejection from Nigerian football fans.
