The former Harambee Stars forward has issued a warning to Engin Firat’s charges not take the Swallows of Burundi lightly during Friday’s World Cup qualifier.
Former Kenyan international Elijah Onsika has warned Harambee Stars against taking Burundi lightly during their upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifier.
Kenya will take on Burundi in the first of their two World Cup qualifiers in Malawi on Friday before a clash against Africa champions Ivory Coast on June 11.
Observers have termed the match against the Ivorians as the toughest for Harambee Stars but Onsika feels Burundi are equally tough and tricky, hence the need for Kenya to be at their absolute best.

The Burundi midfielder has sent a warning to Harambee Stars players before they face each other on Friday.
“I have heard many Kenyans saying it will be a walkover for Kenya against Burundi but that is not the case, and I hope this does not get into our players’ heads, if it does then they will be in for a rude shock,” Onsika told Flashcore.
“Burundi has the same number of points as Kenya (three apiece) in the group, they won a difficult game against the Gambia at home and narrowly lost to Gabon, so you cannot say it will be a walkover for Kenya, nowadays we don’t have underdogs in football, Kenya must strive to give their all against them,” added Onsika.
Onsika also feels Burundi will be more comfortable playing against Kenya since they know most of their players while some of them have played in the country, adding another layer of threat to the Harambee Stars.

Harambee Stars supporters will get an opportunity to watch the national team in action against Burundi and Ivory Coast after earlier fears that they would be left in the dark.
“Most of the Burundi players know Kenyan football, most of them play or have played in the Kenyan league, so they have a good knowledge of Kenyan football and what style they play, it is the reason Kenya must not take the game lightly, they must go to the field and fight and forget about what people are saying outside here, it should be war and not a friendly game,” added Onsika.
Harambee Stars have three points, just like Burundi from their first two matches, with Ivory Coast and Gabon with the maximum six.
