'We have hope' — Xabi Alonso provides update on Victor Boniface injury

Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso gave an update on Victor Boniface's injury.

Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso has provided an update on Victor Boniface’s hamstring injury, which was projected to rule him out for the rest of the year. 

Boniface injury 

The 23-year-old was on duty with the Super Eagles during their last international break, in which he failed to perform again, extending his scoreless run for Nigeria to nine games. 

Instead, he picked up an injury, as upon returning to Germany, he was unable to return to training. Further tests confirmed that he sustained and hamstring injury

He has missed three games so far for Die Werkself and is set to miss even more, as he is not expected to return to action until next year.

What Alonso said 

Speaking ahead of their cup clash against Bayern Munich tomorrow, the coach of the champions was asked about the Nigerian striker’s health, and he explained that they are optimistic as his recovery is going according to plan. 

“We have hope. Every two or three days, tests are carried out to see how he is doing. He is on the right track, but it is too early to say when he will be back,” Alonso told reporters, per Liga insider.

Meanwhile, Boniface got into trouble recently after he was caught driving recklessly. He was sternly reprimanded by Alonso
