According to Opta Nigeria, the last three consecutive NPFL meetings between Remo Stars and El-Kanemi Warriors have ended in the same fashion.
Following a man-of-the-match performance in his side's 2-0 win over promoted El-Kanemi Warriors, Remo Stars defender Oluwasegun Olalere has called the team's first game of the NFPL season, 'fantastic'.
The first game week of the 2023 season saw Remo Stars defeat El-Kanemi at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, making them one of the only two teams in 10 matches to win at home.
The Sky Blue Stars got their feet in front first in the 29th minute through Samuel Anakwe, who, succeeded in putting the ball into the visitors' net after recieving a pass from Edidiong Ezekiel.
The second half then saw Edidiong turn from provider to goalscorer as he evaded four El-Kanemi defenders, to finish off Seun Odunsi's assist for a debut goal.
Olalere commends Remo Stars' defensive discipline
Speaking after being awarded the man-of-the-match, fellow debutant Olalere described his side's performance as fantastic, adding that he was excited to have played his first game for the club.
"I am so happy and very excited," the centre-back said in his post-match interview, "I am very happy to be the man of the match of this game and happy to make my debut for this club. It's very amazing."
"We kept our defensive shape very well because there are times we lost a little bit of concentration. Thank God we were able to adjust on time.
"It was fantastic, the defensive form was very good."
Remo Stars to face Gombe United next
The victory now sees Remo Stars move to second in Group A and behind Bendel Insurance, with El-Kanemi starting the season in last place.
The win also became the third consecutive NPFL meeting between both sides the scoreline ended in a 2-0 home win.
Daniel Ogunmodede's side will next, head to the Pantami Stadium in Gombe to take on Gombe United on Thursday as the NPFL enters its second game week.
