Paris Saint Germain chief Luis Campos provided some insight into their decision to back out from the Victor Osimhen pursuit.

Paris Saint-Germain's sporting director, Luis Campos, has confirmed that they held genuine interest in Victor Osimhen this summer but ultimately decided against a move for him.

PSG’s pursuit

The 25-year-old Super Eagles international had his future in the air all summer long. With an exit from Napoli on his mind and a €130 million release clause, only select clubs like PSG could sit on the negotiating table.

The French champions, Chelsea, and big money spenders from Saudi Arabia switched pole positions before and through the transfer window, but the Parisiens pulled out in the final weeks.

It was believed that PSG was the striker's ideal destination, then Chelsea. However, the option quickly became unavailable, as Pulse Sports reported that the record Ligue 1 winners took themselves out of contention.

Why PSG pulled out

The club's sporting chief, Campos, in a recent interview, confirmed to reporters that they held interest in Osimhen. However, he stated that they did not send a formal bid to Napoli and explained why that was so.

For Campos, they had a wealth of options in the position, and a move for a striker was not the pressing need. While Goncalo Ramos’s—one of their striking options—long-term injury created a necessity, they ultimately decided they could do without a marquee signing in the position this summer, as they had adequate cover.

“Osimhen was considered as one of the options, but we never sent any bid. We were very satisfied with Gonçalo Ramos, Kolo Muani, and Marcos Asensio,” Campos told Sportitalia, per Fabrizio Romano.

Meanwhile, Osimhen landed at Galatasaray on a temporary, season-long loan deal. After a fruitful international break with the Super Eagles, he joined up with his Cim-Bom teammates for training for the first time this week
