Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag analyses his team's impressive performance and victory against Chelsea.

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag was pleased about his team’s victory against Chelsea and explained the reason for their proactive approach to the match.

The Red Devils edged rivals Chelsea 2-1 at Old Trafford to stay in the European places on the log and keep the Blues nailed to 10th place.

Manchester United started brilliantly and had a penalty in the 9th minute, but Bruno Fernandes missed it. Scott McTominay opened the scoring for the Red Devils in the 19th minute, but Cole Palmer restored parity for the Blues before half-time.

A McTominay strike in the 69th minute, however, ensured Ten Hag's side earned maximum points.

What ten Hag said

The Dutch manager was pleased with his team’s start to the game. Manchester United had a peppy start, a sharp contrast from tepid performances in matches past, and Ten Haag explained that this was an intentional game plan to get the Old Trafford crowd behind them.

"I can always have complaints but we are pleased with the result and the performance. We deserved this. We wanted to send this message to the crowd but this is also our style. In the first 30 minutes, we did it perfectly on the pitch."

Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has attempted to explain his team's failures in their defeat against bitter rival Manchester United.
