President Ruto celebrates Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania's 2027 AFCON hosting win, pledging a 'world-class event' amid historic football achievement.

President William Ruto has exuberantly responded to the momentous announcement from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), confirming that Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania had successfully secured the bid to host the prestigious 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

This announcement marked an unprecedented win for the East African nations, collectively presenting their bid under the triumphant Pamoja initiative.

Despite facing stiff competition from established football powerhouses like Nigeria, Benin, and Senegal, the Pamoja Bid eventually emerged victorious, creating a wave of excitement and pride across the participating countries.

President Ruto, visibly elated, took the time to assure both Kenyans and the global football community of the trio’s capacity and readiness to host a successful event.

"Nimepatiwa habari ya kwamba Kenya ikiungana na Tanzania na Uganda tumefaulu kuwa host AFCON in 2027. Nataka nipongeze wizara yetu ambae inasimamia michezo na washika dau wote katika sekta hio kwamba ile mpango tumekuwa nayo ya kubadilisha mambo katika sekta ya michezo sasa imefua dafu. (I have received information that Kenya, together with Tanzania and Uganda, has succeeded in securing hosting rights for AFCON in 2027. I would like to congratulate our Ministry overseeing sports and all stakeholders in this sector. The plan we had to bring about changes in the sports sector has borne fruit,) he said during an address at Nairobi Show Grounds.

"Many people never believed that we had a chance of hosting AFCON in 2027 because of the state of our football and our sports in general," Ruto added.

"But I am proud today that Kenya, together with our partners Uganda and Tanzania, have won the rights to host AFCON in 2027.

"We are very proud of this achievement. We will mobilise resources; we will mobilize every person and every sector to make sure that we deliver a world-class football event in 2027," he added.

Moreover, he pledged the unreserved mobilisation of necessary resources, people, and sectors to ensure the successful delivery of a world-class football event come 2027, thereby reflecting the collective dedication to showcasing the best of African football to the world.

With the announcement also came the confirmation that as hosts, Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania would automatically qualify for the 2027 edition of AFCON.

Notably, the selection of these three nations to host AFCON represents a historic moment for the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA).

The 2027 tournament will mark the first time since 1976, when Ethiopia had the honor, that nations from CECAFA will take center stage in hosting the distinguished championship.
