With En-Nesyri increasingly likely to stay with Sevilla, West Ham have now set their sights on Terem Moffi to lead the line
West Ham have given up on their bid to sign Moroccan centre-forward Youssef En-Nesyri, who has reiterated his desire to remain in Spain with Sevilla.
Instead, according to The Sun, West Ham have now set their sights on Super Eagles’ forward Terem Moffi, who has been in sensational form for Lorient in the 2022–23 season.
West Ham to prioritize Moffi over En-Nesyri
En-Nesyri, who was Morocco’s top scorer when they reached an unprecedented semi-final at the World Cup, has only just started to rediscover his form after fitness issues, and is believed to be keen on getting back to his best with Sevilla instead of making a move to the Premier League.
Lorient's Moffi would be more open to a move and has already been courted by Southampton this season, with only a final fee agreement between The Saints and Lorient standing in the way of the 23-year-old leaving Ligue 1.
Southampton reportedly had an £18 million offer rejected by Lorient, who hope to make at least £25 million from the sale. With West Ham willing to pony up around £22 million for Moffi, Lorient could be willing to allow a deal that is closer to their valuation of the player.
Why West Ham are desperate for a forward
West Ham have struggled in the Premier League this season, and a huge part of that is down to a lack of bite up front.
The Hammers are 17th on the table and have scored only 15 goals in the league this term, the third-worst tally in the English top-flight.
Striker Gianluca Scamacca, who was signed in the summer for €36 million, has only scored three times in the Premier League, while West Ham’s go-to upfront Michail Antonio has only chipped in with two goals.
As such, the desperation to swap out their misfiring forwards for Moffi, who has scored 11 goals in 17 league games, is understandable. Should they meet Lorient’s valuation of Moffi, they could have one of the most in-form attackers in Europe’s top five leagues on their hands.
