The Norwegian says stupid things on their part gave the Hammers’ life.

Martin Odegaard has blamed Arsenal for repeating mistakes that gave West Ham United a chance to fight back and claim a point from a 2-2 draw at the London Stadium on Sunday.

The Gunners captain scored the second goal after Gabriel Jesus had put them in front, but the Hammers’ resilience paid off when Said Benrahma and Jarrod Bowen struck to ensure the tie ended in a draw.

"A lot of the same things to last week," Odegaard told Sky Sports.

"We played really well in the beginning, controlled everything, and it went the way we wanted. Then we stopped with that.

"We gave them a little bit of the game they wanted. We gave them hope when they were basically dead. It's on us.

"We started to do a lot of stupid things with the ball, and we let them play long balls, they got a lot of throw-ins and corners, and we let them play on their qualities."

After a second consecutive 2-2 draw – they also led at Liverpool before the hosts’ comeback at Anfield - Odegaard has stressed the next important thing is a focus on the upcoming game against Southampton.

"We have to make sure this is not a problem. The most important thing is the next game," he concluded.

In the London derby, Bukayo Saka, who has been a reliable penalty taker, missed from the spot before West Ham gathered the energy to fight back.

The England international scored penalties against Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Chelsea, but failed this time around as the Gunners dropped more points in the title race.

The next game for Arsenal is a home match at the Emirates Stadium against Southampton on Friday, April 21.
