Two African countries are in the running to host the centennial edition of the World Cup.
In 2030, the FIFA World Cup will mark its 100th year of existence having been launched by the world's football governing body FIFA, in Uruguay in 1930.
Since then 16 other countries have gone on to host the World Cup, with Qatar, being the most recent in 2022.

WORLD CUP FIFA extends World Cup to 104 matches for 2026
The 2026 World Cup, hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States, was already set to be the largest in the tournament's history with 48 teams, but it will now also be the longest.
Of the 22 editions held since 1930, only eight national teams: Brazil (5) Germany, Italy (4), Argentina (3), France, Uruguay (2), England and Spain (1) have won titles despite a total of 80 teams competing, so far.
