Mosimane, currently the head coach of Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli Saudi, revealed he turned down a head coaching role offer from Egyptian giants Zamalek, insisting that the timing wasn’t right.

Pitso Mosimane, one of Africa’s most revered football coaches, has dropped a bombshell.

Mosimane, currently the head coach of Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli Saudi, revealed he turned down a head coaching role offer from Egyptian giants Zamalek, insisting that the timing wasn’t right.

“I turned down an offer from Zamalek because this timing was inappropriate to take the offer,” Pitso said in an interview this week.

The 58-year-old, who didn’t mention when Zamalek approached him, recently guided his club back to the Saudi Arabian top flight.

Despite the success, reports had indicated that ‘Jingles’ was on his way out from the Saudi club.

However, Mosimane clarified the issue: “I have a clause in my contract that stipulates the extension of the contract when the team ascends (is promoted), so why should I change the matter,” Pitso highlighted.

Ahli clinched the Yelo League title with a game to spare last week; the Jeddah club was one of the most competitive teams in the SPL, winning three league wins.

The side was, however, shockingly relegated in the 2021/2022 campaign after they finished 15th on the log.

When Mosimane took over in September last year, Ahli struggled in their first campaign in the second tier, wallowing in seventh place after five matches under predecessor Yousef Anbar from two wins: two draws and a defeat.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns tactician coached Zamalek’s Cairo giant bitter rivals Al Ahly in his previous job, winning five trophies, including back-to-back CAF Champions League titles in almost two years.
