EFL takes action against Reading owner Dai Yongge for financial misconduct, endangering the club's future amid ongoing struggles on the pitch

Reading Football Club owner, Dai Yongge, finds himself in hot water as he faces disciplinary charges for alleged financial misconduct.

This latest development comes as the club has already suffered a four-point deduction this season, adding to a total of 16 points lost since Dai Yongge assumed ownership in 2017.

The English Football League (EFL) issued a stern statement addressing the charges, stating;

"Reading FC's owner, Mr. Yongge Dai, has been charged with misconduct after failing to comply with the order of an independent Disciplinary Commission which required him to deposit an amount equal to 125% of the Club's forecast monthly wage bill in a designated account by 12 September,” statement reads in part.

The EFL's statement continued, "The League considers these further proceedings against him personally are necessary given the repeated failings in meeting the Club's funding requirements which have only a detrimental impact on the Club and its wider stakeholders."

The gravity of these charges cannot be understated, as they pose a significant threat to Reading stability and future prospects.

The club has already faced numerous setbacks during Dai Yongge's ownership, and this latest episode has sent shockwaves through the football community.

Reading, affectionately known as "The Royals" by their devoted fans, has struggled both on and off the pitch in recent years.

The team's relegation from the English Championship in 2020 was a painful blow, and they have since been fighting to regain their status in the league.

The financial penalties imposed on the club due to Dai Yongge's actions have only exacerbated their challenges.

Dai Yongge's tenure as owner has been marked by controversy and instability. While many initially hoped his investment would bring prosperity to Reading FC, it has instead been marred by financial mismanagement and repeated breaches of EFL regulations.

 The latest charge of failing to meet funding requirements has left supporters and stakeholders disillusioned and concerned about the club's future.

The situation is further compounded by the fact that Reading is currently grappling with on-field struggles.

The team's performance has been lackluster, and the points deduction only deepens their relegation fears.

Fans, who have stood by their team through thick and thin, are now left to wonder if the club can weather this storm and emerge stronger.

The EFL has made it clear that it will not tolerate financial misconduct, and Dai Yongge's case will now be reviewed by an independent Disciplinary Commission in accordance with EFL regulations.

The outcome of this review could have far-reaching consequences, including potential sanctions that could affect Reading’s  ability to compete in the league
