Former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Amaju Pinnick, has vehemently refuted claims that he influenced the current board's decision to appoint Finidi George as the new Super Eagles coach.

The NFF announced Finidi George as the new head coach of the Super Eagles, ending the team's almost two-month search for permanent management.

Finidi who came into the team as an interim coach played two friendly games before being appointed as the head coach of the team.

Gusau and Pinnick's Relationship

Pinnick emphasized that he did not coerce the Ibrahim Gusau-led board into selecting Finidi for the prestigious role.

"The president (Ibrahim Gusau) is very capable, always working round the clock," Pinnick asserted during a conversation with Lagos Talks FM, as reported by Pulse Sports.

"What I observed is that Nigerians don’t like to see peace in Nigerian football, they don’t like synergy."

Pinnick went on to highlight his collaborative history with Gusau, emphasizing their shared experience and understanding of the intricacies of Nigerian football.

"Gusau was a key member in (Aminu) Maigari’s regime. Then in my own regime, he was very cardinal. He understands the dynamics, the theatrics, the politics, the game."

The appointment of Finidi George stirred controversy, with speculations rife that Pinnick wielded undue influence.

However, Pinnick dismissed these allegations, underlining Gusau's pivotal role in the NFF's decision-making process. "If I have a good synergy with my successor, I don’t think there’s any reason to say that I’m the one that chose Finidi George."
