With all that achieved in a short span amidst a stable financial backing, it was expected that Ssimbwa would commit to staying at Kitara and help them compete in the top flight, and it was all in sync.
When Sam Ssimbwa signed a short-term contract at Kitara FC in January, his main task was to guide the Bunyoro-based side to earn promotion back to the top flight, which he achieved along with winning the FUFA big league title.
With all that achieved in a short span amidst a stable financial backing, it was expected that Ssimbwa would commit to staying at Kitara and help them compete in the top flight, and it was all in sync.
However, all the plans went up in the air like smoke after both parties had met to strategize for the upcoming season, according to club chairman Deo Kasozi.
"He (Ssimbwa) did the job we signed him for, which was promotion and winning the big league, we then met and discussed targets, but he was to win the league, and he gave us a budget to back it up," Kasozi noted.
"However, after deliberations among us, the team owners, we realized that his targets, for now, don't match ours next season, so we agreed to part ways, and that's when we started the hunt for a new coach.
"Brian Ssenyondo meets our targets mainly to play entertaining football and develop young players, hence him joining us on a two-year deal,” Kasozi added.
The Budget details
Pulse Sports reliably understands that when the club and Sam Ssimbwa met, both parties agreed on the tactician's budget, which included signing ten top players and increasing the salaries and match-winning bonuses for the KCCA FC legend and his technical staff.
Still, the Kitara FC management surprisingly pulled the plug on the deal at the last minute.
However, Ssimbwa is content with his contribution to the club and has moved on.
Kitara, who have been attracting record attendances during home games, are racing against time to have their stadium ready to host Uganda Premier League games.
Kasozi also notes that the gate charges will only increase for the big games like S.C Villa, KCCA FC, and Vipers SC.
"We are working on the stadium day and night and hope to be ready by the time the FUFA licensing committee visits the venue.”
"As for the gate charges, we hope to increase to 5k from 3k while the big games will be at 10k, so I am hopeful the fans will come and support the club,” Kasozi added.
Brian Ssenyondo, who joined on a two-year deal, will be tasked with keeping Kitara FC in the top-flight next season with a top-five finish as the ultimate target.
