When Vipers signed striker Karim Ndugwa from BUL in the January transfer, many of their hopefuls viewed it as a boost to their CAF Champions League campaign.
However, the striker was not part of the team that flew out to Morocco on Wednesday morning to play Raja Casablanca on Friday at the Mohammed V Complexe.
“New signing Karim Ndugwa is cap-tied having played in the CAF Confederations Cup with BUL FC,” the club explained.
Eligibility
The CAF Champions League tournament rules on the registration and qualification of players state that “During the same year a player is in principle only eligible to play for the same club in the CAF inter-club competitions.
“However a player even though registered on the list of a club who has not been fielded in any match of inter-club competitions will be authorized to play for another participating club in the inter-club competitions during the same year so long as all the regulations are complied with,” the rules explain further.
Ndugwa played two matches for BUL as they bowed out to Egyptian club Future FC in the preliminary rounds of the CAF Confederations Cup.
Among the 18 that travelled with the Venoms, Coach Beto Bianchi named Martin Kizza and Congolese midfielder Serge Robert Mwenge who also joined in January.
Vipers are pooled in Group C alongside Horoya Athletic from Guinea, Raja Casablanca and Simba from Tanzania.
