After making a return to football, following his league debut for Wakiso Giants against KCCA at the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium last Friday, Willa said he was a happy man, and was thrilled to be back in action.
It is exactly 349 days since Paul Willa was told he required surgery on an injury in his left Achilles ligament sustained during a league game for Vipers SC against Bright Stars.
Willa went on to be ruled out for the remainder of Vipers SC’s title winning season, making a return for the Uganda Cup final, before he was taken off after aggrevating the injury.
Following an extended period, it was announced that he was to leave the club at the end of the season, going on to miss the first round of the 2022/23 StarTimes Uganda Premier League.
After making a return to football, following his league debut for Wakiso Giants against KCCA at the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium last Friday, Willa said he was a happy man, and was thrilled to be back in action.
“It feels good to be back. I just want to go out there play and enjoy it and enjoy my teammates,” Willa exclusively told Pulse Sports.
“After the injury last year and where I am today, after how I was last year, I am very proud of myself. I still need to improve though but I am very content.”
“Having a such an injury and having to undergo surgery is a tricky. Being out for quite a long time like I was makes it even harder.”
"I feel good but there is always room for improvement and I feel like it's on the way.” Willa added.
The 23-year-old is currently on a short term deal that runs at leats until the end of the season with the Purple Sharks after joining them in the January transfer window.
The move saw him link up with coach John Luyinda ‘Ayala’, with the two last working together at Police FC, with Willa joining the club as a budding young defender from KCCA FC.
Willa has played in both Wakiso’s games since the CHAN break, and has been utilized more as a central defender alongside Ambrose Arinda.
“I don’t care about where and how I am played really, I want to help the team, and help the club achieve whatever we can achieve” he explained.
“The only thing to get there is to play games, to get better, to get more confident in the things you do, get back to normal things.”
Wakiso Giants will be in action again on Tuesday, when they visit Uganda Premier League side Blacks Power FC at the Akii Bua Stadium in Lira.
