Head coach Rhulani Mokwena was the favourite to scoop the coach for the season, which he did; having taken over as sole coach in October 2022, Mokwena led Sundowns to their sixth straight league title, winning it with seven games to spare.

The South African Football season ended on Sunday evening at the Premier Soccer League Awards as Mamelodi Sundowns scooped six individual awards, the most by any club.

Head coach Rhulani Mokwena was the favourite to scoop the coach for the season, which he did; having taken over as sole coach in October 2022, Mokwena led Sundowns to their sixth straight league title, winning it with seven games to spare.

Still unbeaten in 20 games as head coach, he picked up 14 wins, including the first 11, including six draws; also, Khuliso Mudau won the Defender for the Season award.

Ronwen Williams’s 18 clean sheets in as many games won him the goalkeeper of the season. At the same time, Teboho Mokowena walked away with two awards, the Midfielder of the Season and the most valuable Player of the Season.

Masandawana also claimed the Young Player of the Season award, which Cassius Mailula won.

Orlando Pirates’ Monnapule Saleng won the MTN 8 last-man-standing award for his inspirational performance as the sea robbers won the cup; his freekick against Sundowns earned them the final berth. Saleng also won the Players’ Player of the Season award.

The golden boot award was shared between Sundowns’ Peter Shalulile and Cape Town City’s Khanyiza Mayo, who each scored 12 goals this season.

Yusuf Mart’s solo effort from the halfway line in the Soweto derby as Kaizer Chiefs beat Orlando Pirates, 1-0 was voted as the goal of the season.
