Magera says now is not the time to be excited, calling for calm and more hard work in the remaining games of the season as Villa try to win their first league title in 19 years.

SC Villa’s resurgence in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League can’t be discussed without mentioning head coach Jackson ‘Nelly’ Magera.

The soft-spoken tactician has overseen a revival at the record league champions, seeing the side go top of the table for the first time this season.

Magera says now is not the time to be excited, calling for calm and more hard work in the remaining games of the season as Villa try to win their first league title in 19 years.

“I understand the current feeling of the Villa fans and even my bosses, but now is not the time to be excited; we have to remain focused and calm to see out the rest of the season,” Magera told Pulse Sports.

Magera, who claimed the Uganda Premier League Pilsner coach for February/March, guided the Joogos to five league wins in six games, with three of the wins earned in Lira as the club served its punishment for crowd trouble.

“Winning games in Lira was about character; we prepared the players mentally, physically and technically, and they delivered,” he noted.

If the Jogoos claim the league title, Magera is ready to carry the project forward, that’s if his bosses deem it fit.

“I would want to take this project further because it’s the one that has made me who I am, so if the bosses deem it fit, so be it but let’s see how the league ends,” Magera added.

SC Villa lead the 16 team log on 40 points, three ahead of second-placed KCCA FC, with two games in hand. Next up is an away trip to Wakiso to face the Purple Sharks.
