Greater Masaka is set to have a modern city stadium after the leaders of the City unveiled the artistic impression for the facility, which is set to cost Shs16b.
The artistic impression is a master of Cornerstone Designs and Engineering Limited, the company that was, according to Daily Monitor, paid Shs1.45b in October 2022 to make structural designs.
"We planned to complete that project within three years, but we are behind schedule since the contractor had taken over a year working on the designs," Kimaanya Municipality Legislator Abed Bwanika was quoted by Monitor.
"We want the designs to be completed, and we focus on the actual construction works," he added.
Once complete, the Stadium is set to be a 15,000 people seater, artificial turf, a swimming pool as well as space for indoor sports, including basketball, volleyball, netball and many more.
Of the Shs16b, Shs6 has already been released by the government, part of which was directed towards the designing.
The project is, however, set to be tested after a survey report confirmed that the land designated for the Stadium has several encroachers, including Masaka prisons and Shell Buddu.
Meanwhile, once complete, the Stadium is set to elevate talent identification and nurturing in the area that has produced some of the country's best sportsmen and women in the past.
