Worse than Moyes — Wayne Rooney slams Erik ten Hag's Manchester United

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney questions the desire of the current crop at the club, and compares them to the David Moyes era.

Manchester United’s record scorer Wayne Rooney had strong criticism for his former club’s sporting status, stating that they are worse off than even under David Moyes.

The Red Devils are currently 8th on the log after 36 games, and are on course for their worst-ever finish in the Premier League era, with only two games left in the season.

What Rooney said

Ahead of the Premier League clash against Arsenal, which resulted in a 1-0 defeat, Wayne Rooney spoke about the precarious situation in which the record Premier League winners find themselves on the log.

They are now three points behind Chelsea and Newcastle, and if their current form is anything to go by, it's safe to predict an eighth-place finish.

An eighth-place finish would be the worst ever for Manchester United in the Premier League era, snatching the unwanted record from David Moyes’s team in the 13/14 season.

Wayne Rooney was part of the Moyes team, and he said that the current season is an even bigger failure.

"They've obviously got some difficult games coming up, and then they've got the FA Cup Final,” Rooney said, per Goal.

“So for me as a player, now you need to show you where to you want to play for this football club, and you've got a big game to end the season against Manchester City, but that has to start from today.

“You can't just turn it on in an FA Cup final. So it has to start from today and go on up until our final. We finished seventh with under David Moyes when I was here. I know that Moyes lost his job, but it never, ever felt as bad as what it is now."
