Wananchi need to win by more than two goals in Algiers to claim a first ever continental trophy
Yanga coach Nasreddine Nabbi says mentality will be the biggest asset they need on Saturday evening when they take on USM Alger in the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup final at the Stade du 5 Juillet in Algiers.
Yanga travelled to Algiers trailing 2-1 from the first leg played at their Benjamin Mkapa backyard in Dar es Salaam last weekend, and they need a win of more than two goals to turn the tie in their favour and clinch their first ever continental trophy.
“I believe we still have a chance to turn the tables. We are a big team in Tanzania and representing our country, we have to do our best in the final,” the tactician said, speaking during Friday’s pre-match press conference.
The Tunisian tactician admitted that Alger deserved victory in the first leg in Dar es Salaam as they were more focused and prepared. He also pointed out that the Algerians had their best performance of the season in the Dar victory.
He also said that his side might have crumbled under pressure, as it was the first time ever they were in such a stage, playing a continental final.
“It was an unusual place for us and the fans had come in their numbers and the pressure was on us,” Nabbi said.
Coming into the second leg, where they also expect a fully packed stadium, Nabbi says his team is ready to fight tooth and nail to give themselves a chance.
“We came here to fight with our spirits and blood. We will give our best and if Alger win, we will congratulate them. But we will give a fight,” added the tactician.
“The mental aspect of the players will make a difference in this match. We have to go in with a strong mentality to fight in a difficult game.”
Meanwhile, Burkina Faso international Stephane Aziz Ki said in a difficult match, the players will seek to give their best.
“We are facing a very tough team. We have worked on our shortcomings and we are motivated to try and get a win here. We are going into the final to play for victory. Our spirits are high and despite losing the first leg, we remain focused,” Ki stated.
“And optimistic for a good result here in Algiers. We want to try and make history for our club ands we will leave everything on the field to strive to be champions.”
The match will be played at 10pm East African time.
