The first leg of the two-legged tie will be played on Sunday, August 20, and a week later, fans will be treated to the reverse leg duel, both scheduled at the same iconic venue.

Yanga Africans will host both legs of the preliminary CAF Champions League matches against ASAS FC of Djibouti at the Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam, the club has said.

This substantial advantage comes as a significant boost for the team as they aim to get the monkey off their back reagrds qualification for Africa’s premier club competition.

The first leg of the two-legged tie will be played on Sunday, August 20, and a week later, fans will be treated to the reverse leg duel, both scheduled at the same iconic venue.

Ali Kamwe, Yanga's Media and Communication Manager, spoke of the team's ambitions and the significance of this development.

“We have received official communication from CAF informing us that we are going to host both legs of the preliminary round at Azam Complex and we are pleased with this development,” he explained.

The club's intentions are evident, with Kamwe noting, “We want to make a big statement that this year, we are destined to achieve more in the champions league and our target is to step in the group stage.”

The sentiment evokes their commendable performance from last season, where they had an impressive run in the CAF Confederation Cup, reaching the final stage.

“Last season, we did well in the CAF Confederation Cup by reaching the final stage, and we want to transfer that success to the Champions League,” Kamwe added.

Addressing their history in the Champions League, Kamwe acknowledged the club's previous shortcomings, saying that Yanga has had a challenging past in the competition.

But, with a determined spirit, the team is "ready to put that under the carpet this time around."

On the player front, winger Mahlatse Makudubela (Skudu), who faced an injury during their Community Shield clash against Azam in Tanga, has been reported to be recovering well, much to the fans' relief.

In preparation for the much-anticipated match this Sunday, the team, fresh from their Community Shield engagement, is set to regroup for intensive training sessions.
