On Sunday, Niger Tornadoes earned their third win of the season following a first-half goal by David Okoromi in their game against Dakkada.
Niger Tornadoes boss Abubakar Bala Mohammed has promised an improved squad ahead of the second half of the 2023 Nigeria Premier Football League season which is expected to resume in March.
The NPFL will, at the completion of Week 9 matches on Wednesday, embark on a three-week break following Nigeria's 2023 Presidential/Parliament/Gubernatorial elections which holds on February 25 and March 11.
So far, Niger Tornadoes have had a pretty decent season, securing three wins, three draws, as well as three defeats to sit in 5th in Group B, and just a point behind qualification places for the Super 6 playoff.
On Sunday, they earned their third win of the season following a first-half goal by David Okoromi.
More work to be done on improving Tornadoes - Bala Mohammed
Speaking during his post-match interview shortly after the Ikon Allah Boys defeated Dakkada at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna, the Niger Tornadoes boss praised his team's improvement, while adding that there was still work to do.
"You can see that there is a little improvement in the area of converting chances; that we have been working on, even though a lot still needs to be done," Bala Mohammed said after the 1-0 win.
"The players were a bit calm in front of the goal today despite the fact that many chances were also squandered.
"One area which is quite disturbing is anxiousness in front of the goal, however, we have taken note and will work on that before the league restarts.
"We have identified some areas of concern, especially a ball-carrying player that can help the team to transition smoothly between the midfield and attack. You will see improved Tornadoes in the second round."
Niger Tornadoes to play Dakkada again
When the league makes its return in March, Niger Tornadoes will make a trip to Uyo to take on Dakkada for the second time this season.
At the end of the regular season, the top three teams from Groups A and B will proceed to a Super 6 playoff to determine what teams will represent Nigeria in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup, and who will be crowned champions.
Four teams: the bottom two from both groups, will be relagated to the second division, the Nigeria National League (NNL) at the end of the regular season.
