The DR. Congo international goal machine still has a year left on his current deal. Still, it has been a subject of speculation linking him to various top clubs in the African continent and Saudi Arabia.

The worst-kept secret is finally out; Fiston Mayele is not about to return to Young Africans, at least for now, as he contemplates his future.

The DR. Congo international goal machine still has a year left on his current deal. Still, it has been a subject of speculation linking him to various top clubs in the African continent and Saudi Arabia.

Young Africans Communications Manager Ali Kamwe confirmed to a Tanzanian online publication that the club is still engaging Mayele on extending his contract, and soon the fans will know if the forward is staying or leaving.

“The status of Mayele as to whether he stays or leaves the club will be concluded soon, we’re engaging him, and very soon, the fans will know the outcome,” Kamwe noted.

On a three-year contract, Mayele, who joined the Jangweni-based side in 2020, has been the Tanzanian Premier League top scorer for two straight campaigns.

He also had an outstanding run last season, scoring seven goals in the CAF Confederation Cup as his side reached their maiden interclub final.

Pulse Sports reported earlier that Mayele had zeroed down on a move to Saudi Arabia, with the player in need of a new challenge, having won back-to-back domestic trebles with Young Africans.

New head coach Angel Miguel Gamondi has already hit the ground running as the team reported for preseason this week at the club’s training base, Aviic Town, in Kigamboni.

However, key players like Khalid Aucho, Stephane Aziz Ki, Dickson Job, captain Bakari Mwenyoto, and Salum ‘Sureboy’ Aboubaker are yet to report to camp but are expected soon.

‘Tiimu ya Wanainchi’ get their Tanzanian league season underway in early August when the Charity Shield gets underway.

The competition has a different format from the usual league and FA Cup winners facing off; the new edition will see the top four teams from last season face off on a knock-out basis.
