Uganda Cranes and Vipers SC forward Yunus Sentamu has joined the rest of the country in mourning the killings of at least 25 students by gunmen believed to be ADF rebels at a privately-owned school at Mpondwe Kasese on Saturday.

Sentamu, who also hails from the rocky district in western Uganda, shared a statement on his Twitter page on Saturday where he comforted the bereaved families and mourned the students' passing.

"Ya Allah, my home is bleeding," he captioned the statement, which read: "My thoughts and prayers go out to the students and families of all victims of the Rubiriha SS massacre.”

“May justice be served quickly and fairly, Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihiraj'un,” the statement added.

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga confirmed the attack on the school, which happened on Friday at 11 pm, fearing the number could go higher as the operation continues.

"Last night, we registered a terrorist attack by the ADF rebels on Lhubiriha secondary school in Mpondwe, which is located about 2km from the DRC border," Enanga said.

"A dormitory was burnt, and a food store looted, so far 25 bodies have been recovered from the school and transferred to Bwera hospital; also recovered are eight victims who remain in critical condition at Bwera hospital.

"A hot pursuit by the UPDF and the police is still ongoing towards Virunga national park,” he noted.
