Ruben Amorim's side took the lead after Viktor Gyokeres' 38th-minute effort, and they soon had a man advantage following Angel Gomes' sending-off five minutes before the interlude after receiving a second yellow.
The match stayed that way until the 65th minute when Debast hit a first-time shot after Daniel Braganca teed him up from around 25 yards to double the home side’s advantage.
Tuesday’s 2-0 win sees Sporting sit sixth in the Champions League standings, with Wednesday and Thursday's games still to be played.
What comes next?
Amorim’s men return to league action against new boys AVS on September 22 before travelling to Estoril five days later.
Sporting's next Champions League match takes them to PSV on October 1.
