‘Chelsea don stain him white’ — Fans react to Sterling’s first draw against Bournemouth
Before Chelsea, Raheem Sterling had won every match he played against Bournemouth
Despite the magnitude of investment, the West London club have had a stuttering start to the season, winning only one league game so far, drawing twice, and losing two games.
They failed to pick up maximum points in their most recent league game this weekend, a goalless draw against Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth, and the result brought to fore Pochettino’s pre-match comments about their new signings.
What Pochettino said
The former Tottenham manager called for calm over Chelsea’s new signings, believing they needed time to fully bloom.
To buttress his point, the Argentine referenced Zidane’s signing for the Los Blancos at the turn of the millennium and how he struggled for brilliance in his first few months.
Pochettino pointed out that the French-Algerian was already an established world-class star at the time and still needed to acclimatise. He wants fans to bear this in mind and cut Chelsea’s new youngsters some slack.
“Players are not machines,” Pochettino said, per Fabrizio Romano.

ANALYSIS Chelsea: Is Mauricio Pochettino playing a back four or five?
Mauricio Pochettino’s utilisation of Ben Chilwell in Chelsea’s opening four Premier League games has enraged and confused the club’s supporters. Has the manager turned his back on what worked in the off-season?
“For example, Real Madrid paid a big amount of money for one player, and his name was Zinedine Zidane. He was an amazing player, and after six months, you can ask the fans of Real Madrid, and they say: What have we bought?”
“He started to perform after seven or eight months. Zinedine Zidane was 26, 27 years old. When you bring a player that is 18, 19, 20, 21 - be careful and give them time”.
