Bruce Dombolo reportedly passed away in his sleep after repenting from a life of crime.

Former Serie A footballer-turned-armed-robber-turned-actor Bruce Dombolo has tragically passed away in his sleep at just 39 years old.

The Marseille-born talent, once tipped for footballing stardom, took a shocking turn in life before eventually turning things around—but his redemption story has now been cut short.

Dombolo’s career began with promise at Auxerre’s academy, and he even played in Italy’s Serie A for Ancona before spells at Pro Vasto and Marignane.

However, instead of fulfilling his footballing potential, he fell into a life of crime.

At just 20 years old, he was sentenced to two years in prison, and things only worsened from there.

By 2010, he was involved in a high-profile jewellery heist, which landed him an eight-year sentence.

Looking back on his downfall, Dombolo admitted in a 2023 interview:

“Some people fall into robbery of their own accord, and sadly I was one such person. I didn’t think, but instead went to see some friends who were doing stupid things and asked them to include me. That was how I joined a gang of armed robbers.”

"There are people who fall into banditry of their own free will, I am unfortunately one of those people. I didn't think, I went to see some friends who were doing a bit of mischief and I asked them to kindly integrate me among them," he told Clique TV.

In total, Bruce Dombolo will have spent around ten years in prison for armed robberies.

But just as it seemed Dombolo had successfully rewritten his story, tragedy struck.

His agent confirmed to Le Parisien over the weekend that he had passed away in his sleep, leaving the football and entertainment worlds in shock.

After serving his sentence, Dombolo was released in 2020 and embarked on a remarkable journey of redemption.

He became an actor, producer, and even a violence prevention advocate.

He was also a Connect 4 champion, showing an unexpected but impressive skill.

Reflecting on his past, he once said: “I fell from the academy into the prison, from the stadiums of Serie A into robberies. But in jail, I turned my weaknesses into strengths. My journey proves that anyone can turn their life around, no matter where they are from.”

Though his path was unconventional, Bruce Dombolo’s life was a testament to second chances, even if his time was cut devastatingly short.
