Mbappe spends big on Pele’s painting
Kylian Mbappé has spent an incredible ₦832 million (€520,000) on a picture of legendary Brazil great Pelé, according to a post shared on Instagram.
The France international beat his close friend Achraf Hakimi to win a picture of one of the best players in history for a value of over half a million euros.
The legendary football player's painting was intended to be sold during the PSG gala last year, but the event was postponed because of Sergio Rico, the custodian for PSG, having a sad horse riding accident.
The artwork, titled "O REI" (Portuguese for "The King"), was made by French contemporary artist Alexandre Hopare.
With Hakimi and Mbappé determined to outbid one another, the piece, which had an initial starting price of €5,000, ended up selling for 100 times its starting price. Over €2.7m was ultimately raised on the evening for charitable causes.
