For the third time, Usman takes on English professional mixed martial artist Leon Edwards.
In December 2015, Usman defeated Edwards via a unanimous decision in Orlando, Florida, United States.

Adesanya last year lost the UFC Middleweight title to Brazilian professional mixed martial artist and former kickboxer Alexsandro Pereira.

While preparing for his rematch against Pereira, Adesanya took time out to give an assessment of the UFC 286 main event between Usman and Edwards.
Adesanya despite his Nigerian links with Usman celebrated Edwards's victory in Salt Lake to become the welterweight champion.
On the trilogy fight between Usman and Edwards, Adesanya gave an explanation of what to expect on his official YouTube account.

He said, "So, this is round three or part three okay first fight Usman one he wrestled him and he was on his way to doing that in the second fight.
"He realized Usman was whenever he threw the left straight yeah and so he's just leaned to the kick.
"I don't know if it's gonna end in the Finish, it's too tough for their own good yeah and they're too smart for their own good."
"I don't think it's going to end in the Finish."
