Despite back-to-back losses against Leon Edwards, Kamaru Usman tells Mike Tyson he is still the best.
Kamarudeen Usman, an American and Nigerian mixed martial artist, has been a strong force in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) despite successes and setbacks.
Leon Edwards dealt him a hard loss, as he was unable to win back the welterweight title he had lost to Edwards at UFC 278.
Usman discussed his position in the UFC welterweight division with the legendary Mike Tyson during their interview on the Hotboxin podcast.
The Nigerian Nightmare and his parents teams up with Tyson in Vegas for a UFC Fight Night card.
The two luminaries engaged in a profoundly reflective discussion about the important lessons that can come from failure and how it can ultimately pave the way for greater achievement.
Kamaru Usman Opens Up to Mike Tyson
Mike Tyson told a fascinating story about his own loss during their talk.
He explained that, unexpectedly, he began earning more money than before after losing his first battle to Buster Douglas.
This came as a result of Tyson's failure opening the door for bookmakers to speculate on him losing subsequent matches, raising the stakes' monetary value.
Usman joins in to discuss the defeat after just losing his second fight to Edwards.
Usman said, “I feel like I’m kind of in a space where it was almost like people were more upset that I lost than I was.
"People were devastated and I get all the messages all the time ‘no you are good, you gonna get this back, and this and that.’ And I’m fully aware that I’m the best welterweight fighter for sure in the division.”
In the podcast conversation, Kamaru Usman revealed that despite his most recent defeat, he has reignited his love for the game and the training regimen.
Usman said he is entirely committed to pushing himself to new levels since he finds the process of training for a fight to be so fascinating.
Usman's commitment and fresh zeal for the UFC promise well for his future, and fans should expect to see him continue to excel in the octagon.
