MOTORSPORTS Toyota Gazoo Racing Team hopeful of making history once again as they return for Safari Rally
Reigning world champion Kalle Rovanperä, Elfyn Evans, Sébastien Ogier, and Takamoto Katsuta will be the drivers representing the Toyota Gazoo team.
Despite this year’s event having almost the same route as last year’s event, Evans noted that he is just bracing up for a tough show since the conditions might be totally different.
“It’s always difficult to know what we can expect on the Safari Rally, which is what makes it such a challenge for the teams and the crews," said Evans.
"Most of the route will be the same as last year, but we know that the conditions can vary massively… not only from one year to the next but also from one section of the stage to another.
"We’ve already experienced a lot of different conditions there over the past couple of years, so we have been looking back through those events to prepare as best as we can, but we also need to be ready to adapt to whatever we face during the week,” he added.
The 34-year-old finished second behind Finland’s Kalle Rovanpera. Japan’s Takamoto Katsuta finished third in the event.
The trio drive the Toyota GR Yaris Rally1 car built by Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT and they’ll be hoping for a repeat of the same when they make a return to the event. Eight-time world champion Sebastian Ogier, who won the Safari Rally on its return to the WRC in 2021, has now been added to the team. He finished fourth during last year's event.
