A 180m package was revealed Tuesday morning by Shell Managing Director Johan Grobelaar at the company head offices along Seventh Street in Kampala.

When the Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally raves off next month, it will have the full backing of Vivo Energy.

Through their Shell V-Power product, the company will be the headline sponsor of the three-day event slated for May 5-7 in Jinja and Buikwe.

A 180m package was revealed Tuesday morning by Shell Managing Director Johan Grobelaar at the company head offices along Seventh Street in Kampala.

"We are delighted to once again be the title sponsor of the Annual Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally," Grobbelaar told the press at the signing of the contract between FMU and Vivo Energy.

"We are committed to supporting the growth and development of motorsport in Uganda, and we believe that this event provides an excellent opportunity to showcase the performance and efficiency of Shell V-Power," he added.

The 180m will be a shot in the arm for the federation, which continues to look for packages to help with the smooth running of the event.

The Annual Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally is the most sought-after event for drivers on the local calendar and attracts several from beyond the borders.

The two big names that graced last year's event are Zambia's Leroy Gomes and Kenya's Karan Patel.

It was, however, the crew of Jas Mangat and Joseph Kamya that went on to take the day and win the event.

"We invite the fans to come and enjoy a good weekend of rallying," FMU president Dipu Ruparelia said.

"We encourage everyone to observe road safety guidelines as they come to the rally," he added.

The Pearl Rally will be the second event on the National Rally Championship calendar.
