The Sports Ministry termed them as daring women who have chosen to throw themselves in the deep end.

As the WRC Safari Rally enters the penultimate stage, the Ministry of Sports has taken to social media to laud the women who are raising the country’s flag.

Through a social media post, the ministry termed them as daring women who have chosen to throw themselves in the deep end and battle it out with their male counterparts.

“We want to shine our spotlight on eight female crew drivers in the thick of the action at the Safari Rally, to celebrate and recognise their remarkable feat," said the ministry.

"This year is specifically special for this group of determined ladies, as the government stepped in to hold their hand and walk them through the perceived valley of impossibility, to turn it into a reality.

"These are the daredevils who've chosen to enter the predominantly male ring and fight it out with their male counterparts, with complete disregard of the notion that they are of lesser quality."

The team of four is headlined by Pauline Sheghu, navigated by experienced Linet Ouko, Carolyne Gatimu, and Tinashe Gatimu (the youngest rally driver in the competition this year), as well as Jennifer Malik navigated by Wangui Mungai. Natasha Tundo who will be navigated by Shantal Young will also be in the mix.

“It calls for grit. It calls for determination, but above all, it takes resilience to conquer these seldom chartered waters and leave a mark in the female rallying cycles, which others can emulate," added the misntry.

"As the 70th anniversary celebrations of the rally, the Ministry prides itself in supporting all the female crew to break barriers and the glass ceiling for Kenya's female rally drivers,” the post concluded.
