Sebastien Ogier has criticizes the new WRC points system claiming that it devalues victories after his win at the Croatia Rally.
Eight-time former world champion Sebastien Ogier has openly criticized the new scoring system introduced in the 2024 World Rally Championship labeling it a "joke" that devalues the essence of competitive racing.
Despite securing his 59th WRC victory at the Croatia Rally last weekend Ogier expressed dissatisfaction with the way points are currently distributed among drivers.

Ogier capitalises on rivals' misfortune for dramatic win at Croatia Rally
The eight-time former world champion clinched a surprise win at Croatia Rally capitalizing on key errors by competitors to secure his 100th podium.
Ogier, who claimed the top podium spot in Croatia, earned a total of 21 points, which strikingly only set him two points ahead of Ott Tanak, who finished fourth.
Both Thierry Neuville and Elfyn Evans, who finished third and second respectively, scored 19 points each, marginally less than Tanak.
Introduced at the beginning of the season, the revised points structure now awards points at the end of each rally day in addition to the traditional powerstage points. This change was intended to discourage processional racing and motivate drivers to consistently push their limits throughout the event.

Ruto has made a rallying call to the private sector to help invest more into the WRC Safari Rally following the conclusion of the 2024 edition.
The two-time Safari Rally champion compared the situation to a children's television show in France, ‘L’École des fans’, where points are generously distributed to make everyone happy.
"That’s basically what happened in WRC. So, at the end, there will be a champion. But I don’t know, whoever it’s going to be, it looks strange. It’s not natural anymore. So that’s the sad part of today," he explained.
Despite his critical view on the points system, Ogier reflected positively on his performance over the weekend.
"Well, honestly, I think I haven’t had a weekend like this in my career with so many moments still. So, it’s been an eventful weekend,” he commented.

Moving forward, it will be crucial for the World Rally Championship organizers to evaluate the feedback from seasoned drivers like Ogier and possibly recalibrate the points allocation to preserve the competitive spirit of the sport.
