Jamaica took Uganda to the cleaners at the 2023 Netball World Cup with a 61-49 victory in match day four of the competition at the Cape Town Convetion Centre in South Africa.
Jamaica came into the tie with a 100% record after beating South Africa, Wales and Sri Lanka, while Uganda had won two of their three against Singapore and Trinidad & Tobago. They had lost to New Zealand.
Jamaica’s Jhaniele Fowler was a no match for Uganda’s goalkeeper Haniisha Muhameed and goalkeeper Christine Nakitto; she scored all her ten attempts as Jamaica took the first quarter 15-12.
On the other end of the quarter, Uganda’s Mary Nuba struggled to cope with Jamaica’s goalkeeper Shamera Sterling, the former scored seven of her 11 attempts. Eyaru was five for five with three assists.
Uganda was struggling to cope, and midway through the second quarter, goalkeeper Stellah Nanfuka came on for Muhameed, Shadia goal attacker Nassanga was on for wing attacker Norah Lunkuse as Skipper Eyaru switched to the midfield.
Uganda trailed 38-21 as Flower was 28/28, and Nuba was 14/18 as Margret Baagala picked ten assists.
Jamaica rested Flower for Romelda Aiken-Georg, as Uganda turned on the gear winning the quarter 16-11 but trailed 49-37; Nuba was 23/28 at this stage as Bagagala added just five assists.
Nuba finished the game with 28 points, Nassanga 15 and 18 assists, while Eyaru and Baagala helped themselves to 13 and 17 assists, respectively.
Uganda will take the much-needed rest on Tuesday ahead of their must-win game against Wales if they are to finish in a decent position.
