Goal shooter Mary Nuba and centre Margret Baagals were unplayable as the She Cranes defeated Trinidad and Tobago 74-34 to qualify for the second preliminary round of the 2023 Netball World Cup in Cape Town South Africa.

Head coach Fred Mugerwa gave Haniisha Muhameed her first start as a goalkeeper, Christine Namulumba at goal shooting and Lilian Achola at wing attack.

Captain Irene Eyaru got her second straight start in goal attacker Margret Bagala maintained her position at centre, she has been Uganda’s best player at the tournament.

And that didn't stop them from cruising to a 14-11 lead, Namulumba scoring five of her seven attempts, Eyaru was nine out of 10 with Baagala providing nine assists.

Mugerwa introduced Mary Nuba for Namulumba at the start of the second quarter, she scored 11 of her 12 attempts as Uganda lead 33-18 at the break.

Eyaru lead for Uganda with 17 points from 18 attempts, Baagala taking her assists tally to 22, no one else from both teams was in double figures.

Goal attacker Shadia Nassanga was introduced for wing attacker Achola and the former switched switched with Eyaru.

At this stage, Nuba with 21 points and Baagala with 30 assists were unstoppable as Uganda led 54-27.

Nuba finished the game with 35 points, Eyaru added 18, Nassanga 17 while Baagala finished the game with 39.

At the second preliminary round, Uganda, New Zealand and Trinidad and Tobago will from group F with the top three teams from group C, there the top two will qualify for the semis.
