She Cranes captain Irene Eyaru guided Uganda to victory at the 2018 World Netball University games in Kampala, Uganda.

Uganda won the gold medal in 2018, defeating favourites South Africa 44- 43 in an enthralling final to hand them the title.

Eyaru will be going to her first Netball World Cup this July in Cape Town, South Africa, not just as a player but as the captain of Uganda.

"I know once I lead a team, I am very confident that they can go on to make their supporters happy just like we did in 2018 when we made Ugandans happy", Eyaru told Pulse Sports.

"We are not just going to the World Cup to participate in these games but rather compete at the highest level and treat every game like it is a final", she added.

The She Cranes are in Group D alongside world champions New Zealand, Singapore, and Trinidad and Tobago.

"We are ever ready, whether you are number one or number in the world; we don't fear anyone," Eyaru noted.

"It is other teams that are fearing Uganda; for example, right now, it is New Zealand that is ever asking for a friendly with Uganda."

"For us, we are very comfortable; whoever we meet on the way, we shall play them like we are playing the final; we don't fear anyone," Eyaru added.

They will participate in their third straight World Cup after finishing eighth and seventh in 2015 and 2019, respectively.
