Fred Mugerwa's new contract is expected to address the challenges of allowances and salaries that recently overshadowed the She Cranes triumphant return from Cape Town.
Uganda women's senior netball head coach Fred Mugerwa has been handed a two-year contract by the Uganda Netball Federation on September 20 in Kampala.
The federation announced the decision at their 2023 exco meeting in Kampala.
"UNF EXCO renewed Coach Fred Mugerwa's contract," the netball federation announced on X, formerly Twitter, before adding.
"The contract extension is for two years! The man with the Whitebeard is still in charge of She Cranes. More success is coming."
When Pulse Uganda Sports contacted Mugerwa, he confirmed the development: "Yes, it is true."
Mugerwa revealed that he has yet to sign the contract, but they're in advanced stages, having agreed on key clauses like salary payment as part of the new deal.
He also added that the federation will pay his salary arrears in instalments.
"We have reached an agreement that I will sign it (the contract) by next week. The contract will contain the salaries. We have agreed that they will pay the arrears in instalments," Mugerwa noted.
When asked about the targets for the new contract, Mugerwa noted that the new contract will address the expectations of the federation.
Mugerwa successfully led the national team to the 2023 World Netball World Cup, where Uganda stunned hosts South Africa 49-47 to finish fifth overall.
