Uganda's senior women's netball team, the She Cranes, will use the East Africa Club Netball Championships to boost its preparations for the World Cup.

Uganda Netball Federation, Head of Technical Rosette Kaala, says that the regional championships will improve competitiveness rather than disrupt the team's preparations.

"We had four teams going for the East Africa Club Championship in Weyonje, NIC and Prisons. Unfortunately, KCCA pulled out, citing financial constraints, but the other three clubs have confirmed their participation," Kaala said.

"The tournament will help the national team greatly because almost 95 % of the players are from the four clubs."

"Unfortunately, we have a setback with KCCA's withdrawal but competitiveness in the tournament will be an overall advantage to the national team," she added.

Kaala stressed that preparations for the World Cup are alive: "On behalf of the technical team, the national team's preparations for the World Cup are going smoothly."

"We are going to the World Cup not to participate but compete," she said.

According to the tentative program, the clubs representing Uganda are slated to depart for Nairobi on May 10.
