Uganda Netball Federation are yet to receive funds for World Cup preparations despite summoning 30 players for non-residential training.

The 2023 Netball World Cup in South Africa is scheduled for July 28 to August 6, 2023.

At the Annual General Meeting held in January this year, Netball Federation boss Babirye Sarah Kityo revealed that the She Cranes would engage in several international engagements ahead of the World Cup.

These competitions included participating in the Barbados Test Series.

"We are supposed to go for the Test Series in Barbados, where Jamaica will take part and other countries", she said.

Babirye is optimistic, though: "We have not received the funds."

"The good news is that they've not said no. So probably they are looking for funds and will give us soon."

"We trust the office of the IGG, Ministry of Education and Sports, our supervisors. I'm sure they are monitoring and will give us the funds.

Babirye also added that the team will hold regional tours as part of their preparations.

"Regional tours help us market the team because most wonderful players are not known at home."

"Our social media following has grown, and we shall not miss this opportunity for all regions."

"We shall bring these girls so that you know them and support them at the World Cup," she added.

Head coach Fred Tabale Mugerwa summoned 30 players consisting of 27 locally based, for non-residential training starting April 17 in Kamwokya, Kampala.

Speaking to Pulse Sports Uganda, he says he will work with what is available as they wait for funds.

"We shall start training April 17, three days a week; that is, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday."

"It is non-residential training in Kamwokya, and we shall use the Kamwokya court till we get a court with a better surface," Mugerwa noted.

This will be Uganda's third appearance at the Netball World Cup after the 2015 and 2019 editions.
