"So, everybody should start taking their ball as a priority because we're a team that goes to tournaments to compete, not participate," she advised.

Uganda possesses some of the finest netball talents globally, yet the country has yet to break the shell to join the top five ranked nations.

The recently released rankings by World Netball put Uganda sixth, a leap from eighth. It also placed the Pearl of Africa second on the continent, just behind South Africa.

The rise followed impressive shows at the 2023 Netball World Cup in South Africa, where the She Cranes finished fifth in the world, and first in Africa.

However, She Cranes goalkeeper Haniisha Muhameed feels the team can produce much more, but, with the right touch.

"To be honest, a lot of investment in sport, and netball in particular," Muhameed said in a recent interview published on the She Cranes Facebook page.

"I think Uganda can be number one in terms of netball, but it's a lot of investment required," the Surrey Storm (United Kingdom) player reiterated.

Uganda beat Wales in the January Test Series 2-1 before a decent show in the Vitality Netball Nations Cup held in England.

Besides Uganda, England, New Zealand and Australia, who are ranked number three, two and one, respectively featured.

"You look at how organized teams here (UK) are. In Uganda, you don't get players' bodies conditioned, don't access the gym, and all these things are accessible in these countries," Muhameed said.

"So, everybody should start taking their ball as a priority because we're a team that goes to tournaments to compete, not participate," she advised.

"And it's clear we bring results every single time we get the opportunity and, so, we need to prioritize netball, and everybody should see that. I'll play my part as a player."

In Uganda, football continues to take the largest share of the National Council of Sports budgetary cake, with netball and other sports disciplines still struggling to attract the necessary funding.
