A group of 38 junior players are set to go for training as the country prepares for the International Cricket Council U19 men’s World Cup Africa Division 1 qualifier. The global showpiece is scheduled for July 23 to 29 in Tanzania.

32 players were selected from Nairobi County from the three-day trials that concluded on Monday, May 1.

The game between Kenya and Uganda at the Victoria Series 2023 has just been washed out because of a heavy downpour and persistent drizzle that made the conditions unplayable at the Lugogo Cricket Oval.

They join the three players earlier selected from Mombasa (Hitendra Sanghani, Vatsal Shah and Manav Devani) and three more from the Nakuru County (Hassan Lijodi, Yusuf Khamala, and Joseph Macharia) trials.

The event organisers were impressed by the large turnout despite the unfavourable weather conditions that have been witnessed in Nairobi County in the past few weeks.

Despite the pounding rains, 51 boys showed up for the trials at Nairobi Gymkhana carried out by the U-19 head coach Josephat Irungu.

Also present were ex-Kenya international Lameck Onyango in the presence of Cricket Kenya Development Director Thomas Odoyo and the Chairperson of the selection committee, Alfred Njuguna.

The 38-man squad will now move to the next stage of preparations from Tuesday, May 9 at Sikh Union Sports Club and each will be looking to use the opportunity and work hard as they eye to make it to the final squad.
