A total of 150 participants are expected to compete at the inaugural Jinja Ladies Open.
Jinja Club will host the first-ever Jinja Ladies Open this weekend at the Source of the Nile.
The club, in partnership with Uganda Ladies Golf Union, launched the event on Sunday on the 72-par course.
Top players in the country, including home girl Martha Babirye are expected to compete over 36 holes in the two-day event.
Uganda Ladies Golf Union (ULGU) representative Georgina Tumusiime said the tournament is part of the body’s strategy to expand golf and attract more girls and ladies to play.
“We resolved as the Uganda Ladies Golf Union that every club in the country should have a ladies open in a way to encourage ladies and juniors to participate,” Tumusiime, who is also the Jinja Games captain, told Pulse Sports during the unveiling.
The club’s captain Dr. Fred Magara revealed that they are expecting more than 150 participants, including men and juniors in the subsidiary categories.
“We’ve shared a link for interested players to register. The main event will go for shs.80,000 and shs.50,000, with the registration closing on Wednesday before the draws,” Magara noted further.
