Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Anita Annet Among, has firmly cautioned sportsmen/women against sexual harassment and acts of homosexuality.
Among made the remarks while meeting the Kampala Queens Football Club team that lifted the Women’s Super League 2022/23 trophy at Parliament.
“Even when you are in these teams, do not allow that vice of homosexuality,” Among told the players.
"For example, a man gets married to a woman—a woman to a man. There is a tendency of this in sports,” she added
Among noted that her office has received reports of sexual harassment in a particular sports federation and warned administrators against taking advantage of women.
“I want to warn the administrators on this aspect of sexual harassment. We have got reports from other teams.”
“Please do not harass our girls because you want to select them. We are watching you; we know those who play well,” she added.
Among strongly stressed her support for sportswomen and the sports sector, noting that Parliament will avail funds to support them.
“As a woman leader, I will always support the girl child. I will support you in football and all your endeavours.”
“We are the ones who do appropriation, and we shall give support to sports,” Among, who doubles as the club patron noted.
