The African champions are seeded number four in both men's and women’s categories for the championship.

The African champions in the men and women category, Quadri Aruna of Nigeria and Dina Meshref of Egypt have gotten a tough draw in the first round of the World Table Tennis (WTT) Contender Durban.

The first WTT Series Contender of the year will take place at the Olive Convention Center Durban in South Africa, which is slated for January 10-15.

The African champions are seeded number four in both men's and women’s categories for the championship.

Aruna and Meshref are expected to start their campaigns from the main draw in South Africa which will serve as a dress rehearsal for the 2023 World Championships in May.

The $75,000 prize money tournament has Brazil’s Hugo Calderano and Germany’s Nina Mittelham as number-one seeds in men's and women’s singles.

The tournament ends on January 15 with winners getting 400 ranking points.

Aruna faces Chinese Sun Wen

Aruna will face China's Sun Wen in the first round of the men’s singles.

The highest-ranked African player in the world is rated 15th with his opponent ranked 111 in the world.

The 26-year-old giant-killing Chinese star will be hoping to halt the dominance of Aruna over his compatriots from China.

The Nigerian is a familiar foe for the Chinese, he has taken down some of their finest players in the party and Wen will be aiming to stop the reign of the African champion over his compatriots.

Meshref to confront German Chinese-born Yuan Wan

Meshref will confront German Chinese-born Yuan Wan in the first round.

Dina Meshref wins 2022 African senior championship in Algeria

The Egyptian will battle a skillful German who is ranked 86th in the world and capable of causing an upset against the African champion.
