Uganda's team at the ongoing Africa badminton Championship in Johannesburg, South Africa, had a bright start registering wins in the mixed doubles, Women's doubles, Men and Women's singles.

In the Men's singles, Team Uganda's number one seed Kasirye Brian beat Mozambique's Iddrisse Issofo Mossagye in straight sets (21-4, 22-7).

Husana Kobugabe was also victorious in the Women's singles, beating up Mozambican Afrika Matsinhe in straight sets (21-3, 21-4).

Head coach Ivan Drake Kalimunda credited day one's performance against Mozambique to the earlier preparation done back home.

"Today's performance is down to the two weeks of residential training back home. The players followed the strategies we laid out for them," he noted before adding.

"Day two sees us face South Africa; we have faced them before and beaten them in Uganda, so we are hopeful we shall beat them and top the group and qualify for the quarter-finals."

The men's mixed doubles of Amos Muyanja and Kenneth Comfort Mwambu registered a straight sets victory over Mozambicans Iddrisse Issofo Mossagye and Edmilson Paulo Mutondo.

The Women's doubles also delivered a straight-sets victory for Uganda's Glades Mbabazi and Fadilah Shamika Mohamed Rafi against Mozambicans Jessica Almedia and Afrika Matsinhe.

Uganda takes on South Africa on day two (Tuesday), and victory would guarantee them a spot in the quarter-finals and bragging writes of the group.
